Poisons found in traditional medicine Nan Bao

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency and the Health Ministry have authorised a product disband on Nan Bao Capsule.

The traditional medicine was found to have contained sildenafil and tadalafil, which are used in medications to treat erectile dysfunction, and could only be prescribed by doctors.

Yet the Nan Bao Capsule is stated to supposedly help relieve joint pains, strengthen the body and improve appetite.

Using the medicine without a doctor’s prescription could cause serious adverse effects, such as reduction or loss of vision, hearing loss, and a sudden blood pressure drop to a dangerous level. It could also cause cardiovascular diseases, such as stroke and heart attack.

Distribution of the product is a violation of the Sale of Drugs Act 1952 and the Control of Drugs and Cosmetic Regulations 1984.

Offenders will be fined RM25,000 to RM 50,000 or imprisonment of three to five years, or both.

Consumers who use this product are advised to stop and consult a professional doctor in case of any side effects.
