Malaysia to stop buying European products?

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia said it would stop importing several European products.

This is in retaliation against the European Union's (EU) ban on palm oil from Malaysia.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the move to bar product imports from EU countries was an option that could be adopted by Malaysia.

"Yes, we think we will stop some buying European product. That is the one thing we can do."

Yesterday, Dr Mahathir said the government had agreed to call for Malaysia to be more aggressive politically and economically to address the palm oil ban, including retaliating against the EU if it continues to treat Malaysian palm oil industry unfairly.

It was reported on Friday that Malaysia would consider retaliatory actions against European exports if the EU proceeded to implement the delegated act to phase out palm biodiesel.
