YAN: A carcass of what is believed to be of a whale was found on the beach at Kuala Sala here today.
It was discovered by Mohd Nabil Abdul Hamid, 19, while searching for mud crabs. He later informed his uncle Mohd Abdul Hadi Ishak, 35.
Mohd Abdul Hadi said Mohd Nabil found the carcass earlier, but only informed him last night. When Mohd Hadi went to inspect the carcass, he saw that its stomach had ripped open and its contents had spilled.
“It looked like a dolphin, but the size was much bigger so it could be a whale species.
“This is the first time that we found something of this nature. It might have been beached, but most of the villagers were not aware of it,” he said.
Mohd Abdul Hadi said he could not confirm if the creature had died earlier before beaching.
Meanwhile, sources from Kedah Fisheries Department when contacted said investigations were underway to determine its species.
