City Hall adds 119 more lots to Jalan Raja Ramadan bazaar

KUALA LUMPUR: City Hall is helping Ramadan Bazaar traders by adding 119 more lots along Jalan Raja.

Federal Territory Minister Khalid Abdul Samad said this would allow more traders to set up stalls during the fasting month.

“They can apply to City Hall online or come to the office,” he said.

“We listened to their comments, so we want to accommodate them in the best way we can,” he told a press conference after launching the logo for Kuala Lumpur World Book Capital 2020 at PWTC today.

There are currently 225 lots in Jalan Raja.

City Hall’s socio-economic development executive director Datuk Ibrahim Yusoff said: “Those who did not succeed during the previous draw will be contacted or they can also contact City Hall for a chance to get the 119 new spots.

“We wish them the best of luck that they can participate in the Ramadan Bazaar.”

Khalid said, previously, traders had obtained their lots through their associations, but now they had to deal directly with City Hall.

“This move is not meant to kill the traders’ associations, but to ensure fair allocation of lots for the Ramadan Bazaar.

“We are also working with the traders’ associations and giving them the authority to manage 50 bazaar locations where the traders need to pay them management fees for cleaning up and security, among other services.

“So, it’s a win-win situation for all parties, the associations and the traders involved with the upcoming Ramadan Bazaar.”

He said there was confusion over the Ramadan Bazaar issue that made it seemed like there was flip-flopping on City Hall’s part.

“On this and any other issue, City Hall is the only source of legitimate information.

“They (traders) can contact City Hall or come to City Hall and see the bulletin to get the correct information,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sin Boon Seang, 24, who won the competition for the logo of the KL World Book Capital campaign received RM3,000.
