Sepang bus tragedy: Waiting for a ride home that never came

SERDANG: “I was waiting for my ride back to the hostel in Nilai after finishing my shift, but the bus never arrived.”

Indonesian Nurul Shah Putri Adam, 27, said two other buses had arrived and gone but hers was nowhere in sight.

Imagine her horror when she found out that her bus was involved in an accident in which 12 people were killed, and among them were her good friends, Rosvita Loka Harahap, 24, Ayu Zulkarnain, 23, and Azura Afrianti, 23.

The accident took place at 11.10pm last night near the MAS Cargo Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) along Jalan S8 Pekeliling in Sepang.

“I was speechless when I was told that the bus was involved in an accident and some were killed, including my friends, and some were badly hurt.

“I immediately went to the scene and was greeted by the horrifying sight of the bus in the drain. But, the authorities prevented me from going near it,” said the distraught Nurul Shah Putri when met at the Serdang Hospital.

Nurul Shah Putri said she was really closed to Rosvita because they were staying at the same hostel, adding that the last time she met her best friend was on Saturday.

“Her death is a great loss for me. I hope preparations to bring her body home will go smoothly,” she added.
