Missing runner: Cops rule out foul play

IPOH: Police have ruled out foul play in the case of missing runner Muhammad Ashraf Hassan, while taking part in the 2019 Gopeng Ultra Trail on March 28.

Perak police chief, Datuk Razarudin Husai said that police have checked the 29-year-old man's mobile phone, bank account and his car movement but as to date, there were no transactions made or changes detected.

“The investigation paper is almost complete and we have taken statements from several people including his family, friends as well as the organiser.

“Police have also checked his bank account, mobile phone but nothing led us to foul play elements,” he said at a press conference after attending a blood donation programme at the Mydin Mall in Meru, here, today.

Muhammad Ashraf or Acap was one of the participants in a mixed group of 485 runners in the 25km run. He failed to make it to the finish line when the event ended at 2pm.

On a viral post that cops would soon be releasing a statement on the real reason behind Muhammad Ashraf's disappearance, Razarudin dismissed the matter as not true.

“No, that’s not true and I am not the source. Police are still investigating this matter as a missing person's case and we do not want any individual to spread information without correct facts.

“Our investigation is based on facts and proof that we gain from the investigation. I hope people would stop spreading wrong information as it could hurt the victim’s family. Don’t take advantage of this matter and don’t rub salt into open wounds,” he said.
