Hishammuddin hails Felda white paper

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has hailed the white paper on Felda, and is all for a ‘thorough investigation’ into the agency’s dealings, including with Eagle High Plantations Tbk (EHP).

The Barisan Nasional member of parliament for Sembrong tweeted yesterday that the tabling of the white paper by Economic Affairs Ministers Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali in Parliament on Wednesday was laudable.

Hishamuddin, who is also former defence minister, said the move would benefit the 2,285 Felda settlers in his constituency.

“Regarding the white paper on Felda tabled by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali yesterday (April 10), I believe that as a whole it will benefit Felda and our settlers.

“I support (it) and will cooperate with him, especially for the sake of the Sembrong settlers.”

Hishammuddin said the white paper had revealed a few worrying things that would need a thorough investigation.

“This is especially so, on things related to the Eagle High transactions which have raised questions among the public,” he tweeted.

On Wednesday, Azmin had tabled the white paper entitled Towards the Sustainability of Felda in Parliament, and said the government had agreed to provide RM6.23 billion financial aid by way of grants, loans and government guarantees in stages in accordance with the need for a new business model for the management of Felda.
