GEORGE TOWN: Some 3,000 registered Indonesian voters in Penang, Kedah and Perlis are expected to cast their votes for the 2019 Indonesia presidential election, here, today.
The republic's Consul-General in Penang, Iwanshah Wibisono said there are 60,610 registered Indonesian voters eligible to cast their votes in Malaysia.
Apart from Penang, Indonesians are also casting their votes in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.
“We are targeting a 2,400 voter turnout and we are confident we can achieve it," he said informing that polling started at 8am and would end at 6pm.
This year's presidential election sees Joko Widodo, fondly known as Jokowi, defending his position for the second term with his new partner Ma'ruf Amin who is gunning for the vice presidency.
The duo are up against former military chief Prabowo Subianto who partners with former deputy governor of Jakarta Sandiaga Uno, 49.
Over 190 million Indonesians are expected to vote this coming Wednesday in one of the biggest elections in the world. Meanwhile over two million voters are abroad including Malaysia.
Housemaid Sukenam Nuryasengaja, 59, from Jawa Tengah, Indonesia, said that this is her fourth time voting in Penang after residing here for 20 years.
“The voting process is being carried out well and I did not have to wait too long for my turn,” she said.
