BELAGA: About 100 residents from 30 families at two blocks of Uma Bawang longhouses in Sungai Asap were left homeless after their houses caught fire this evening.
Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohamad Meramit said a house which serves as a church was also destroyed in the 6pm fire.
“A total of 11 personnel with one FRT engine and one EMRS vehicle were rushed to the scene after we received a call at 6.03pm.
“The longhouses were located 200km from the station and it took over two hours to reach there,” he said.
Mohamad said while waiting for the personnel to arrive, a team of volunteer firefighters from Sungai Asap Belaga was ordered to control the fire.
Two hours ago, the firefighters were still dousing the fire to prevent it from spreading to other blocks.
