Wan Azizah urges media to work with govt

CYBERJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail says the media should cooperate with the government to develop a new Malaysia that everybody is dreaming of.

She said it was not easy for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to meet the high expectations of the people after it took over the country’s administration from the previous government, which had ruled for 61 years.

She said the media should play its role in disseminating information to the public in a more responsible manner.

“I just hope (the media) will be more understanding. You can criticise, but look at the facts too.

“(With) power, comes great responsibility,” she said, at a tea party with about 300 media practitioners, here, today.

Present were Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, Bernama deputy editor-in-chief domestic news service Datuk Mokhtar Hussain and Bernama deputy editor-in-chief international news service Ahmad Fuad Yahya.

Dr Wan Azizah said the government respected the media’s role, including in exposing the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal and other cases.
