More than 60 to take part in this year's Unduk Ngadau

KOTA KINABALU: More than 60 participants are expected to take part in the Pesta Kaamatan's (harvest festival) Unduk Ngadau pageant this year, which will be held at Sabah Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA)’s Hongkod Koisaan Hall on May 31.

Statel-level Unduk Ngadau Committee chairman Jo-Anna Sue Henley Rampas said to date some 56 people have signed up for the annual beauty queen contest.

“The age limit of the participants this year has also been raised to 27, from 25, as previously practiced, to make room for those who are still studying to participate in the Unduk Ngadau event,” she said.

Jo-Anna, who is also political secretary to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, said the winner of Unduk Ngadau, apart from being a tourism ambassador, would also be involved with several projects including cultural education, community projects and services.

She said the competition would encourage younger generation to contribute to the community.

The competition, she added would also serve as a platform to highlight the roles of women from various aspects of community development. -– Bernama
