No decision yet on removal of RON95 price cap, says Saifuddin

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has yet to make a final decision on the removal of the price cap on RON95 petrol, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today.

Referring to media reports on his statement on the removal of the price cap for the fuel, he said RON95 petrol has been capped at RM2.08 per litre as the government's measure to protect the people from being exposed to a high and volatile petrol price.

He said stabilising the retail prices of fuel and implementing a targeted subsidy were part of the commitments mentioned in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) manifesto, not setting the RON95 petrol price at RM1.50 as viralled in the social media.

Saifuddin said measures to stabilise the retail price of the fuel have been implemented and the government remained committed to implementing the targeted subsidy so that only the needy and eligible group will benefit from it.

“The government is always open to proposals from the people on the implementation of this targeted subsidy so that the intention and objective behind this policy are achieved.” he said. -– BERNAMA
