Housing Ministry, state govts to discuss redevelopment of aged flats [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: The Housing and Local Government Ministry and state governments will discuss the redevelopment of major housing projects nationwide – especially flats which are more than 30 years old.

Its minister, Zuraida Kamaruddin, said the criteria for assessing and redeveloping old housing projects are part of the national housing policy.

Talks on the discussion come in the wake of large cracks being discovered in the structure of the Taman Keramat Permai apartments in Kuala Lumpur.

“The (case of the) Taman Keramat Permai apartments comes under the (purview of the) Selangor state government.

“The (Housing Ministry is monitoring the case). I will visit the (apartments on Monday),” said Zuraida, who has just returned from a visit to China.

The minister was commenting on major cracks discovered in 40 units of Block F of the Taman Keramat Permai apartments recently, which forced the evacuation and relocation of 222 residents.

The situation had become quite dire, as the entire block appeared to be tilted to one side.

Zuraida spoke following the closing ceremony of the Kampung Baru Village Community Management Council Empowerment Convention (MPKK) at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here, today.
