2 landslides hit Camerons

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Heavy rain over the past few days triggered landslides at two locations here along Jalan Ringlet-Blue Valley and Jalan Ulu Merah.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah said the first incident occurred at 6am at a farming area in Jalan Ulu Merah.

The route was then temporarily closed to motorists.

"The affected area covered about 15 meters high and 10 meters long. However, no untoward incidents were reported and the route is temporarily closed to make way for clearing works by the Public Works Department," he said when contacted today.

The second landslide occurred at about 9.30am along Jalan Ringlet-Blue Valley near a rock quarry.

"The landslide occurred near a rock quarry owned by Syarikat Perniagaan Nazri Ahmad Kuari here measuring 32 meters. No untoward incidents were reported there.

"Following the landslide incident, the affected route was completely closed to all vehicles before one lane was made available at noon today as clearing works are still ongoing," he said.

Ashari said the affected areas have no alternative routes and the related agencies were currently at the location, with warning signs having been put up.
