Latheefa: Graft probe against senior cabinet minister will be led by my deputy

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will investigate allegations of corruption against a senior cabinet minister from PKR.

However, MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said she would stay away from the probe and instead leave it to her deputy to take charge.

This follows a report lodged by Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam with MACC alleging “suspicious transactions” into the minister’s bank account.

“The investigation in this case will be handled by my deputy and his team.

“I will not be involved in any way, whether in the investigations or in the decision making,” she said.

Latheefa added that MACC would investigate all reports professionally and impartially.

“This is my response to media queries regarding a report lodged by Datuk Lokman with MACC with regards to the allegations against a senior cabinet minister.”

Latheefa’s stand in not taking an active part in investigations or the decision-making process is believed to be because she is a former PKR member and is said to have close ties with the minister in question.

During her stint in the party, Latheefa held various positions, including central committee member, legal adviser and information chief.

She resigned from the party when she was informed that she would be appointed MACC chief, taking over the helm of the commission on June 1.
