Reshuffling is not something bad, says Chow

GEORGE TOWN: Penang may see minor reshuffling among few of its 11 state executive councillors, particularly Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, in the near future.

Stressing that he intends to do a bit (of changes) for himself, Chow said he has not thought about the others yet.

“Reshuffling is not something bad.

“If it makes things better, get the team to be more focused, then it is alright,” he told the New Straits Times in an exclusive interview recently.

Elaborating, Chow said he did give the impression before this that once approvals for the RM46 billion Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) and Penang South Reclamation (PSR) projects have been secured, he would pass the transportation portfolio baton to the respective executive councillor for implementation.

Aside from transportation, Chow also oversees land affairs and development as well as information.

“Besides, I plan to take a look at digital transformation.

“I use my own first one year experience to find the right things to do. My team also did the same. Even the incumbents have to explore new things related to their portfolio due to technology advancement.

“The Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) is taking us by storm and all the portfolios will be impacted. Just take a look at human resources for instance, this creates new demands and new skills sets as well as new ways of doing things to come up with new solutions,” he added.

Asked if the transportation portfolio placed a heavy burden on him, Chow said it had been a long, tedious and challenging process due to the magnitude of the projects the state are embarking on.
