St. Joseph's marching band wins second place in Rasteder Musiktage

KUCHING: The 68-strong marching band from St. Joseph Secondary School, here, came in second in the Rasteder Musiktage competition in Germany recently.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said, the band's achievement at the international event was a great honour for Sarawak.

They finished behind Thailand's Ratchasima Witthayalai Marching Band in the marching show band category.

“Their success is the final product of their hard work, sacrifices, patience, discipline and their teacher’s efforts.

“I hope this victory will teach them a most valuable lesson in that to be successful, one needs to to put out a lot of effort,” he said in the statement here, today.

A total of 20 teams from 20 countries around the world took part in the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB).

On Thursday night, the marching band returned to a rousing and enthusiastic welcome from parents and friends at the Kuching International Airport.

Also present were Uggah and his wife Datin Amar Doreen Mayang to receive their grand-daughter Isabelle Sudan, 17, who played the flute in the band. -- Bernama
