Water restoration in Klang Valley 77pc complete

SHAH ALAM: Efforts to restore water supply to over 1 million accounts in seven areas in the Klang Valley are 77 per cent complete as at 6am today, said Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd.

In Kuala Lumpur, the restoration progress stood at 82 per cent; Petaling at 70 per cent, and Klang/Shah Alam at 75 per cent.

Over in Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor, water has been reconnected to 90 per cent and 47 per cent of all accounts, respectively.

In Gombak and Kuala Langat, it was at 94 per cent and 39 per cent respectively.

Air Selangor customer relationship and communication head Abdul Raof Ahmad said nonetheless, water tankers would be mobilised regularly.

He added that Local Service Centres will operate round the clock to assist affected customers. Water supply from public water taps has also been made available.

The Sungai Selangor Phase 1, 2, 3 and Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plants, which supply 60 per cent of treated water to consumers in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, were shut down twice since Friday due to oil-based waste and diesel oil spill pollution.

All four WTPs resumed operations at 3.30am yesterday (July 22) and the process of raising the reservoir level and stabilising the pressure in the main distribution systems is ongoing.

Abdul Raof last night said water supply is expected to be completely restored by Saturday.

The water reconnection recovery for Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor is expected on Wednesday at 6pm; Gombak at 6pm on Thursday; Klang/ Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur at 6pm on Friday.

Over in Petaling and Kuala Langat, the recovery will be at 9am on Saturday.
