I won't be an agent of dirty politics, says Dr M amid rift over sex video

KUALA LUMPUR: Refusing to be dragged into the sex video scandal implicating Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said it was planned by somebody to "use" him.

"Somebody was trying to make use of me to achieve their purpose.

"This is not the usual video that you've seen. It was created to prevent somebody from succeeding in politics.

"I'm not going be an agent to make the plan a success," he told reporters after launching the National Strategy for Financial Literacy 2019-2023 at Bank Negara today.

He said the perpetrators who produced and circulated the video on the Internet should be punished.

"This is not the politics we want.

"I'm not defending him (Azmin). I'm just saying that this is dirty politics and I will not be dragged into it," he said.

When asked if he has any message to the culprits, he said: "I'm not the investigator".

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador when met by reporters said the investigation into the sex video was still ongoing.

"I'll let the team do their work. The investigation is still on," he said, refusing to divulge details when asked about the potential suspects.

Hamid was recently reported as saying that the mastermind behind the video, who is a leader of a political party, had been identified.

The police have so far remanded nine people, including Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, who is the Perak PKR state chief and political secretary of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

For the past month, clips of a sex video featuring two men were circulated to media personnel and PKR members.

Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, a PKR member and former political aide to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin later confessed to the act, saying that he was one of the two men in the video.
