Melaka police offer 50pc discount on traffic summonses

MELAKA: Police are offering discounts of up to 50 per cent on summonses in conjunction with the launch of the National Month and the Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2019 campaign here.

Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Afzanizar Ahmad said payments could be made at six counters on Aug 3 and 4 from 8am to 6pm.

“Normally, this type of programme is well-received.

“Therefore, the public, including those from outside Melaka, who have outstanding summonses can take this opportunity to pay up.

“However, those with summonses involving accident cases, non-compoundable offences, ongoing court trials, summonses issued during this year’s Op Selamat, and the current year’s warrant summonses are not entitled to the discount,” he said in an interview with Melaka FM on the 2019 National Month celebration here.

Afzanizar said no main roads would be closed during the launch by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad at Dataran Pahlawan this Saturday.

“However, closures involving a part of Jalan Parameswara, which is located next to the main stage, will be done in stages to allow vehicles of guests of honour to enter the area as well as the flagging-off ceremony for Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang 2019 convoy,” he said.

Afzanizar said several roads around Dataran Pahlawan would be closed in stages beginning at 7am on Saturday to make way for the 3.8km Merdeka Run. – Bernama
