Wan Azizah: Irish embassy assisting with repatriation of Nora's remains

SEREMBAN: The Irish embassy will be assisting the Quoirin family to prepare documentation for the repatriation of Nora Anne’s body.

This was confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who met the family at The Dusun resort here, today.

“The authorities, especially the Irish embassy, said that they will help in preparing the documentation for the release of the body out of Malaysia,” she said at the Pantai police station, before leaving to meet the Quoirin family.

In a 20-minute briefing with Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop and deputy chief Assistant Commissioner Che Zakaria Othman, Dr Wan Azizah was apprised of the sequence of events in Nora’s disappearance, and those involved in the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

“I’m satisfied that they have done their utmost to try to trace her whereabouts.

“Unfortunately, it is sad that she was found lifeless.

“I’ll leave the investigations… to the police. (We) want to take this as a lesson learnt if any other missing person case occurs,” she said.

When approached after meeting the Quoirin family, Dr Wan Azizah said that the family requested privacy and declined to comment to the media.

As of now, it is unknown when the body will be repatriated.

Nora Anne’s remains were found on Tuesday, 10 days after she disappeared from the resort where she was staying with her family.

The Quoirins were in Negri Sembilan for a two-week holiday, and a SAR operation was immediately launched after she was reported missing.

After a 12-hour post-mortem on Wednesday, Mohamad announced on Thursday that no foul play was found in the death of Nora Anne.

The autopsy results showed that she died of starvation.

The official cause of death is “upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to duodenal ulcer complicated by perforation” – meaning that there was internal bleeding in the intestines due to an ulcer which was brought on by starvation.

Mohammad added that there were no signs of kidnapping or rape; and that Nora Anne died two or three days before her body was found.
