Systems disruption at KLIA expected to be resolved tomorrow morning

KUALA LUMPUR: Systems disruption at both terminals of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) would be resolved tomorrow morning (Aug 23).

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd in a statement said the glitch, which began last night, had not fully stabilised.

It added that the team was working to rectify the situation.

“Among the solutions that are being employed include the replacement of hardware equipment.

“We are pleased to inform that we have received delivery of the equipment which will undergo testing tonight,” the statement read.

MAHB added that they had deployed nearly 1,000 staff to provide assistance to passengers and airlines.

Passengers were advised to reach the airport at least four hours before their flight departure time, and to check with their airlines for the latest flight schedules.

“We are also encouraging passengers to check-in via the respective airlines’ mobile app or website.”

Almost two dozen flights were delayed, affecting flights on airlines bound for Narita, Japan; Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, Australia; Jakarta, Indonesia; London, United Kingdom; and Hong Kong.

The disruption affected several airport systems, including the Flight Information Display System, check-in counters, the Baggage Handling Systems, and WiFi availability.

Bernama reported that the information counter at the KLIA was deluged by passengers.

The disruption to the airport's Total Airport Management System (TAMS) had affected flight display information and slowed the check-in process, among others.

It also reported that long and snaking passenger queues were seen at the terminal, with airport CARE or customer service ambassadors attending to every query with a smile.

Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd customer service manager Rosmawati Mohamad Saufi said the number of CARE ambassadors had been increased since 3am today to assist passengers at critical points.

She said this was the first time that TAMS had experienced a disruption, forcing check-in processes to be done manually.
