KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Russia aim to enhance collaboration in the sharing of information to curb international terrorism.
The Defence Ministry said in a statement today that they reached the agreement at a Malaysia-Russia bilateral meeting yesterday.
The meeting was co-chaired by Malaysian Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and Secretary of the National Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai P Patrushev, who was on a two-day official visit to Malaysia beginning yesterday.
The statement said the two leaders exchanged views on various aspects of bilateral relations, including security challenges, defence cooperation, combating illegal drug trafficking, cybersecurity as well as tackling organised crime and extremism.
Mohamad also highlighted Malaysia’s support for future cooperation with Russia in the field of cybersecurity and reiterated Malaysia’s desire to enhance defence industry cooperation through smart partnership, joint ventures and strategic business alliances between Malaysian and Russian defence companies, it said.
The Malaysian delegation led by Mohamad comprised officials from the Ministry of Defence, Malaysian Armed Forces, National Security Council, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport, Royal Malaysian Police and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency. - Bernama
