Lahad Datu cops nab teen suspected of dealing drugs

LAHAD DATU: Police arrested a teenage boy, who was in possession of RM8,000 worth of drugs, in an operation yesterday at Jalan Tengah Nipah in Kampung Dasar Baru, here.

In the 9.30am raid, the 18-year-old, suspected to be a drug dealer in the area was nabbed in front of an unnumbered house.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Nasri Mansor said the boy with a sling bag was acting suspiciously and tried to escape when police personnel introduced themselves.

"The suspect also turned aggressive and there was a struggle. Police personnel inspected his sling bag and found three packets containing 59.93 grammes of drugs," he said.

Police also found 14 empty packets, a lighter, and a pair of scissors, believed to be used for drug-related activities.

Based on preliminary investigations, Nasri said the teenager is believed to be a small-scale drug dealer and has no criminal record.

"He tested negative for drugs and police are investigating his involvement in drug dealing activities, including when he started and where he got the supply," he added.

Police are investigating the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty if convicted.
