Sarawak welcomes MACC to probe wrongdoings in public services sector

KUCHING: Sarawak today welcomed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate wrongdoings in the state public services sector.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said he respected and believed the graft busters would act professionally and would conduct thorough investigation.

Uggah was asked to comment on the recent arrest of three senior officers from the Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Salcra) along with a businessman.

The four were released on Wednesday after Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar rejected the remand application by the MACC.

MACC investigating officer Mohd Ikhwan Mohd Pauzi had applied for the four to be remanded for seven days to assist investigations on alleged corrupt practices in the agency.

“I believe the case will be investigated thoroughly and (of course) we will accept whatever outcome or action is taken by the MACC,” Uggah said after witnessing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony at Wisma Bapa here.
