Loke: No need to review ECRL project again

KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry said that it has thoroughly relooked into and reviewed the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, and there is no need to readdress the matter again.

Its minister, Anthony Loke, said that the government has already announced that the cost of the project will be reduced and that it is committed to achieving this goal.

"The agreement was signed, and I think the whole approach now is to maximise the ECRL project to benefit all the states involved," said Loke at the 2019 World Maritime Week celebration at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, today.

He was asked to respond to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent call for the ECRL project to be reviewed, after a witness in the ongoing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) trial told the court that it was initiated by the previous government to bail out the debt-ridden investment company.

Loke said he was not aware of Anwar's statement, but reiterated that the project has been already been reviewed.
