Playful Max thrills zoo patrons

KUALA LUMPUR: A male chimpanzee named Max is wowing visitors at Zoo Negara with his dance manoeuvres and picture poses.

Max, known for being independent and friendly, is the oldest of six siblings at the zoo, and also the most active, despite reaching an advanced age of 47.

Zoo Negara Animal Welfare and Customer Service chairman Hafidz Rahmat said healthy food and regular health checks had enhanced his longevity.

"In the wild, chimpanzees mostly live until 32, but Max has exceeded expectations.

"He is aware the public is excited about his animated acts and is thrilled whenever he receives a heartfelt round of applause from visitors," he added.

Hafidz said the Max had been living in captivity since birth and when it reached critical age, his food preparation was monitored by zoo authorities.

Most of Max's workouts are through his active lifestyle by engaging in acts that captivate visitors to the zoo.

Meanwhile, Max has received a two years' financial assistance from real estate developer Symphony Life Berhad, for his daily needs at the zoo, under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to give back to the community and environment. - Bernama
