Lee Lam Thye: NIOSH is my second home

KOTA KINABALU: Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye is optimistic that the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) will remain relevant in the future even after his contract term as chairman ends this Friday.

Lee, who has been with the institute for 27 years, said NIOSH has been helping in promoting occupational safety and health (OSH) nationwide.

“I was appointed as NIOSH board of director in 1992 when the institute was formally established, and two years later appointed as chairman by Human Resource minister.

"During the period, I have given my ‘body and soul’ to NIOSH. I could say that the institute is my second home throughout these 27 years,” Lee said during a press conference at NIOSH office here yesterday.

He added that he had travelled the whole country, including the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak, to promote occupational safety and health practices.

“From public feedback, my efforts have been fruitful as today I can see many industrial companies in the country have the awareness on safety.

"When I leave NIOSH, I can say today that the institute will continue moving forward by taking initiative to improve their efforts through quality training,” he said.
