Wisma Putra advises M'sians in Indonesia to observe safety orders

PUTRAJAYA: The Foreign Ministry today advised Malaysians in Jakarta to strictly observe safety orders by the Indonesian authorities.

This was after several thousand people joined street protests in the country today, to oppose a new law that critics say undermines the anti-graft agency, and a criminal code that would ban sex outside marriage.

"Malaysians (in Indonesia) must always take care of their safety and avoid being in these places (where the protests are held)," it said in a statement earlier.

Wisma Putra added that any Malaysian who requires assistance can contact the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta at +622 522 4947 or +62 813 8081 3036; or email at mwjakarta@kln.gov.my

It was reported that demonstrators had returned to the streets of Jakarta yesterday for the second week of protests to oppose the law.

At least 300 people were hurt during nationwide protests last week, and a 21-year-old student died on last week after he was shot in the chest during a rally in Sulawesi.
