BELURAN: Police have arrested a Canadian man for allegedly outraging the modesty of an Australian woman, here, recently.
It was learnt that the incident happened on Wednesday at 1.47am while both of them were taking a Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan express bus to Telupid.
District police chief Superintendent Kasim Muda said throughout the journey, the 21-year-old victim was seated next to the 69-year-old suspect.
The victim, in her police report, had claimed that the man had touched her by reaching into her clothes.
"Our preliminary investigation showed the victim was sitting next to the suspect and realised she was molested when the man touched her thigh and underwear.
"She then scolded the suspect and there was a commotion. The bus driver then told the suspect to sit elsewhere," he said.
Following the incident, Kasim said the suspect was taken to a police station in Sandakan for questioning.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or criminal force to a person with intent to outrage modesty.
