Two arrested for stealing logs; drugs found on one suspect

BALING: The Kedah State Forestry Department arrested two men who were trying to steal logs at Compartment 9 of Gunung Inas here yesterday.

Its director Roslan Sani said in the 3pm raid, an officer with the department also found a packet containing substance believed to be drugs in one of the suspects’ bag.

“The two men were loading a meranti log onto a lorry at the forest reserve there when our officers ambushed them.

“One of the men tried to run and further check in his bag found a transparent packet containing substance believed to be drugs,” he said when contacted today.

Roslan said the men, aged 28 and 30, were brought to Tawar Forest Ranger Office for documentation process before they were handed over to Kupang police station. Both the local suspects have been remanded for 24 hours.

“We also seized the lorry and a saw machine unit, and brought the items to the department’s storage at Jeniang Forest Ranger Office for further action.

“We are still investigating the total loss from timber theft cases in the area,” Roslan said.

Meanwhile, Baling police chief Superintendent Syed Basri Syed Ali when contacted confirmed on the matter.
