Malaysian killed in Turkey bus mishap was PKNS employee

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian that was killed after the tour bus he was traveling in was involved in a mishap in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey, yesterday, was an employee of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

PKNS in a statement today confirmed the incident, saying that its employee Azalan Miswan, 50, from Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya was pronounced dead at 11.45am (Turkey time).

“We were informed by the Malaysian Embassy in Turkey that a tour bus, where 35 passengers were Malaysians, was involved in a mishap while on their way from Pamukkale to Cappadocia.

"It was also reported that 10 passengers were injured and currently receiving treatment at the Afyonkarahisar Hospital.

“We are still waiting for official statements from the embassy and any latest development will be informed from time to time” read the statement.

Several PKNS employees left for Turkey last Saturday for the trip and were scheduled to return home on Oct 21.

Earlier, Wisma Putra confirmed the accident.

A spokesman said the Malaysian Representative Office in Ankara (Malawakil Ankara) is currently compiling further information from the local authorities on the matter.

Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari in a statement has expressed his condolences to the family of Azalan.

"Speedy recovery to those injured and hopefully Azalan's remains will be brought home safely."
