IGP: Individuals in border smuggling, corruption activities identified

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have identified individuals involved in the smuggling and corruption activities which took place at the Thai border in Padang Besar.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said they had identified the shortcomings in the existing standard operating procedure (SOP) and were making improvements to them.

Hamid said recommendations and actions to remedy the situation atthe border had been discussed during a meeting and comprehensive action had been implemented since last month.

“Last month, I chaired a meeting to discuss the issue and it was attended by brigade commanders, General Operations Force battalion commanding officers and Marine Police Force commanders.

“We’ve identified weaknesses in the supervision and SOP at the border in the meeting, and are making efforts to rectify the situation,” he said.

He said police had identified those involved and action would be taken against them soon.

“In the meeting, we received recommendations. They will be enforced soon. Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has taken action to overcome the weaknesses.”
