Landslide damages Cameron Highlands road; congestion expected

IPOH: A non-stop downpour since Friday evening triggered a major landslide along Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands here, forcing the closure of the northbound lane to all vehicles.

A portion of a 100-metre stretch of the busy highway and the slope beneath it collapsed in the incident, which occurred early today.

Bernama reported that repair works will begin only on Monday.

The road is expected to face massive congestion this weekend as holiday-goers head to or return from Cameron Highlands.

“Instructions have been issued to Pintas Utama Sdn Bhd (PUSB) for the repair work using the ‘Terramesh wall and backfill’ methods,” Perak Public Utilities and Infrastructure, Agriculture and Plantation Committee chairman Abdul Yunus Jamahri said in a statement today.

He also advised motorists to be careful while travelling on the road.
