E-hailing drivers exempt from extra waiting charge at klia2

KUALA LUMPUR: No extra charge will be imposed on e-hailing drivers who exceed the five-minute waiting period to pick up passengers at klia2.

E-hailing drivers are currently charged a RM5 entrance fee at KLIA.

In a statement today, Segi Astana Sdn Bhd clarified that the entrance fee is on a “per entry” basis.

The operator of the integrated complex and gateway@klia2 airport mall said no additional charge would be made “after the first five minutes, nor for any particular time period.”

“The recent implementation (of a fee) for passenger pick-ups by e-hailing drivers at (klia2), which also applies to taxi-on-booking, was made to ensure that e-hailing drivers are able to pick up their passengers in a safe environment,” it said.

However, Segi Astana reminded e-hailing drivers to make prior confirmation with their passengers to ensure that they are already waiting at the designated pick-up point.

It added that Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has also designated an additional waiting area for e-hailing drivers opposite the Long-Term Car Park (LTCP).

“We encourage all e-hailing drivers to make full use of this waiting area, as it will help reduce congestion at the klia2 terminal,” it said.

MAHB recently announced new pick up points for e-hailing drivers at both terminals of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). They are at Doors 3 and 4, Level 1, of the Main Terminal Building of KLIA; and at Door 5, Level 1 of the Transportation Hub at klia2.

According to the new regulation, which came into effect on Oct 12, non-e-hailing drivers can only enter the pick-up area by using a Touch ‘n Go card with a minimum value of RM20, or a pay-wave card.

Each entry to the pick-up point at klia2 costs RM5 for a five minute wait; and RM10 is charged for the next five minutes.
