NSTP-Media Prima Fund brings relief to Changkat Jong flood victims [NSTTV]

TELUK INTAN: A total of 117 families who were affected by recent floods in the state received assistance from the Tabung Bencana NSTP-Media Prima here, on Sunday.

The aid, in the form of food items worth RM23,400, was handed to the victims at the SK Changkat Jong relief centre here, where they have been taking shelter since last week.

Each family received items worth RM200, including food essentials such as biscuits, instant noodles, packet drinks, rice, cooking oils as well as cleaning items like floor wipers, brooms, pails and detergents.

The items were distributed by Changkat Jong state legislative assembly coordinator Mohamad Faizal Ismail.

Also present were Hilir Perak district assistant officer (development) Nurul Afizal Zainal Abidin; Hilir Perak district deputy police chief Superintendent Yahaya Hassan; and 10 members of the NSTP-Media Prima volunteer brigade led by Muhammad Nadzrein Johari.

Aid recipient Mira Ahmad, 30, from Kampung Batu 7 1/2 Changkat Jong, said she was happy to receive the assistance from Media Prima-NSTP and thanked the company for its concern for flood victims.

“I am so happy to receive the aid, and this could at least ease my burden as my house was flooded since last week,” she said when met after the event.

Rohani Ahmad, 64, said the assistance was timely, since her livelihood was badly affected when her house was hit by floodwaters.

“I am the happiest person today because the flood has affected my income. Most of my family members only do ‘kerja kampung’ (menial daily chores). Following the continuous flood for weeks, most of us could not go to work and we are grateful, as the aid helps ease our burden,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nurul Afizal said SK Changkat Jong is the only relief centre still open in the district, as Dewan MPTI Langkap and SK Dato’ Yahya Subban were closed after evacuees were allowed to return home.

As of 3pm today (Sunday), a total of 436 flood victims from 107 families in three districts are still being housed at four relief centres.

A total of 77 victims were moved to SK Changkat Jong; 149 victims were taken to SK Changkat Lobak in Hilir Perak; 128 victims are at SK Parit Haji Aman in Kerian; and 82 victims are being housed at Sekolah Rendah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai in Manjung.
