PH's Karmaine brimming with ideas for Tg Piai's farmers, youth

PONTIAN: Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate for the Tanjung Piai parliamentary by-election, Karmaine Sardini, plans to transform the economic status of the district’s constituents, who are mostly fishermen and farmers.

Among the 66-year-old’s plans are the introduction of oyster and eel-tail catfish breeding and farming, if given the mandate on Nov 16.

He said his proposal is based on Tanjung Piai’s geographic suitability for both projects, and the high demand for oysters and eel-tail catfish in the market.

“However, for these (projects), there should be a comprehensive study to be carried out on the suitability of the water and its seabed so that (the projects) can be fully operational,” he said.

Karmaine is also mooting ideas for setting up a cooperative to allow young people in Tangjung Piai a chance venturing into small businesses.

“We will give them the opportunity to venture into areas that they can benefit from, such as becoming an entrepreneur.

“That’s why we often invite the National Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund (Tekun Nasional) and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to provide information on loan opportunities for start-ups and more,” he added.

Karmaine is going up against Barisan Nasional’s candidate from MCA, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng; Gerakan candidate Wendy Subramaniam; Berjasa’s Datuk Dr Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz; and independent candidates Dr Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abd Ghaffar.

The Election Commission has fixed Nov 16 as polling day, while early voting will take place on Nov 12.
