Early voting begins in Tanjung Piai parliamentary by-election [NSTTV]

PONTIAN: Early voting in the Tanjung Piai parliamentary by-election began at the Bangunan Persatuan Keluarga Polis (Perkep), Pontian police headquarters (IPD) here, at 8am today.

The voting centre has two streams for 280 police personnel from Tanjung Piai’s two state constituencies of Pekan Nanas and Kukup, Bernama reported.

The Pekan Nanas stream will close at 1pm, while the Kukup stream will close at 5pm.

The voting process is being witnessed by candidates’ polling agents and election observers; while the Election Commission is streaming the event live on its official Facebook page.

Once polling ends, the ballot boxes will be stored at the IPD lock-up; and vote tallying will be conducted at the vote tallying centre at the Meeting Room, Pontian District Office, on polling day on Nov 16.

The Tanjung Piai by-election was called following the heart attack death of Pakatan Harapan (PH) incumbent, Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, 42, on Sept 21.

It is a six-cornered contest between PH’s Karmaine Sardini, Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng; Wendy Subramaniam (Gerakan), Datuk Dr Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz (president of Barisan Jemaah Islamiah), and two independent candidates: Dr Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar.
