DPM launches Social Synergy Programme for Msians requiring financial aid

KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organisation (Socso), in collaboration with 16 agencies, has established the Social Synergy Programme – a social security network designed to facilitate the channelling of assistance to Malaysians in financial distress.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said that the Sosco-pioneered programme, with the theme "Sinergi Perkasa, Rakyat Sejahtera", is the best scheme to solve economic problems faced by Malaysians, particularly those in the B40 group.

"One of the main objectives of this programme is to increase income and reduce the poverty rate in the country.

"Through the social security network system provided by various ministries, departments and agencies, the government can make sure that no one, in particular from the B40 group, is neglected.

"Under this programme, for example, an individual who is not eligible to get help from Socso, will be referred to another department or agency, where they may be provided with assistance, as long as they meet the required criteria, she said yesterday.

Dr Wan Azizah was speaking at the launching ceremony of the Social Synergy Programme and MySynergy System at the Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC) here, yesterday.

The Women, Family and Community Development Minister added that the programme will also enhance the quality of service delivery systems among agencies which offer social security benefits in the country.

Dr Wan Azizah said the programme will prevent overlapping in benefit distribution, and ensure that aid only goes to those who deserve it.

"This programme is built on the assurance that it will not interfere with the acts, rules and policies of involved agencies.

"It has also been registered and is protected under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), and has obtained copyright notification from the Intellectual Property Management Corporation (MyiPO)."

On the MySynergy System, the Deputy Prime Minister said that it has adopted blockchain technology.

"The system is built, administered, supervised, managed and fully maintained by Socso. Access was granted to all involved agencies, for free.

"This system is capable of generating and keeping the largest (cache of) social security data in Malaysia," she added.

Present at the event were Human Resources minister M. Kulasegaran and Socso chief executive Datuk Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed.

A total of 1,167 prospects from various backgrounds had registered under the programme, which started on Aug 7, last year.

Meanwhile, Kulasegaran called on other government departments and agencies, as well as non-governmental organisations, to help all Malaysians in financial need.

Among the strategic partners of the Social Synergy Programme are the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency; Giat Mara; the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC); Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia; Tekun Nasional; the Malaysian Freelancer Association; the Mental Illness Awareness & Support Association; and the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).
