Suggestion to turn off air-conditioning during Dewan Rakyat sitting

KUALA LUMPUR: If the air-conditioning is too cold inside Dewan Rakyat, just switch it off.

In a letter addressed to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Mohd Yusof, Umno Youth exco member Datuk Shahrul Nasrun Kamarudin said he was concerned with the well-being of the MPs who were unable to attend Dewan Rakyat proceedings due to it being a cold room.

“We like to request the Parliament management team to turn off the air conditioners during Dewan Rakyat sitting.

“This is because we feel sorry for the Pakatan Harapan MPs who, after being elected in the last General Election, are unable to attend the Dewan Rakyat session because they feel cold.

“By turning off the air-conditioners, the management can also save on electrical bills and (subsequently) increase aid for the needy people,” he said in a statement.

Yesterday, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law) Mohamed Hanipa Maidin said it was not easy for the MPs to stay for a long time in the lower house of the Parliament as it could get too cold.
