KUANTAN: The number of flood evacuees in eastern Terengganu on Sunday evening rose to 1,610 people from 437 families – a significant increase from 1,348 victims recorded at noon.
The victims are taking shelter at 44 temporary relief centres (PPS) in Besut (940 people), Dungun (281), Setiu (88) and Hulu Terengganu (72).
Meanwhile, floodwaters have forced the partial closure of Jalan Bukit Besi-Kuala Terengganu, in Marang.
According to the state Disaster Management Agency, the main highway was closed to light vehicles at 9pm as it was submerged in 0.35m of water.
Heavier vehicles may use the right lane of the highway to travel to and from the state capital.
