Nur Dhiya Aqeela Mohd Khairul Adlie’s body was discovered by a search and rescue (SAR) team floating some 4km from the spot where she was reported missing about 8.04am.

District police chief Superintendent Azli Mohd Noor said the SAR operations on the fourth day (today) began at 8am before they received information that the body of the victim had been recovered.

“The body was sent to Lipis Hospital for post-mortem,” he said today.

He said the SAR team comprised 15 policeman, eight firemen, five Fire and Rescue Department Water Rescue Unit divers, four K9 (dog) unit members and 15 Civil Defence Force personnel.

In the 10.20am incident on Dec 2, Nur Dhiya Aqeela was among seven people aged between 6 and 16 who had gone to the river to wash their hands.

Nur Dhiya Aqeela slipped and fell into the river and her two friends had jumped in to try to rescue her. The three of them were swept away by strong currents before their screams were heard by villagers who rushed to the river bank.

Using a boat, the villagers managed to save two of the victims, but Nur Dhiya Aqeela was dragged away by the strong current.
