Robbers snatch RM40,000 from contractor; money was workers' wages

GELANG PATAH: A contractor was left counting his losses after RM40,000 of his worker’s wages was robbed from him at Nusantara Park here, on Monday.

Iskandar Puteri police chief Assistant Commissioner Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the incident happened at around 3.30pm when the 32-year-old had just withdrawn the money from a bank.

As the contractor headed to his vehicle parked near a convenience store, he was approached by two unidentified men astride a motorcycle.

“A suspect jumped off the motorcycle and prevented the victim from entering his car.

"He then pulled out an object that resembled a knife and pointed it at the victim," Dzulkhairi said.

He said the armed man ordered the victim to remove all the money and items from his backpack.

“Fearing that something untoward would happen, the victim (did as he was told).

“The suspect then seized the victim’s backpack, as well as a gold chain worn by the victim, before fleeing on the motorcycle with the other suspect.

Dzulkarnain said items in the victim's backpack were a purse, an identity card, a driver's license, two bank cards, two credit cards and cash totalling RM40,000.

“The victim was not injured during the incident,” he added.

Dzulkhairi said there were no witnesses to the robbery, apart from a closed-circuit TV camera (CCTV) at the scene.

He said that they are tracking down the suspects as part of an investigation under

Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
