Bar: Rohana fair-minded, has good judicial temperament

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Bar welcomes and congratulates Federal Court judge Datuk Rohana Yusuf on her appointment as Court of Appeal president, making history as the first woman to hold the second highest position in the judiciary.

Its president, Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor, yesterday said Rohana was known as a fair-minded and knowledgeable judge with good judicial temperament.

He said her appointment as the first female Court of Appeal president was most welcome.

He also welcomed the three Federal Court judges Datuk Zaleha Yusof, Datuk Zabariah Mohd Yusof and Datuk Hasnah Mohammed Hashim.

“We are pleased to note that women now make up four out of nine Federal Court judges.

“Achieving this level of gender diversity at the highest level of the judiciary is a positive move and to be commended.”

Fareed also welcomed High Court judges Datuk Hadhariah Syed Ismail, Nantha Balan E.S. Moorthy and Datuk Abu Bakar Jais, who were appointed as Court of Appeal judges, and newly-appointed High Court judges Datuk Seri Tun Abd Majid Tun Hamzah and Datuk Azmi Abdullah.

“We wish all the newly-appointed judges a productive and fruitful tenure in their positions.”
