At least one Malaysian feared dead in NZ volcanic eruption

KUALA LUMPUR: At least one Malaysian is feared dead after the White Island volcano in New Zealand erupted on Monday, the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington said on its Facebook page, today.

In a post updated about three hours ago, the High Commission said that it was informed of the possible Malaysian casualties by New Zealand authorities at 9.30am local time.

“Further details are being obtained as the investigation progresses.

“We are working closely with local authorities and will continue to update from time to time,” it said.

The High Commission also urged those with information on Malaysians who may have been on or near the volcano to contact its officials via telephone at +64-43852439/ +64-210440188 (after working hours) or email mwwellington@kln.gov.my.
