West Coast Expressway opens Section 5 stretch to traffic tonight

KLANG: Section 5 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) connecting the New North Klang Straits Bypass (Shapadu) and Bandar Bukit Raja (North) elevated intersection will open to motorists at 10pm today.

The 9.7km stretch, the first out of seven sections in Selangor, provides the convenience of those traveling to Kapar from Shah Alam and vice-versa.

It was officiated by Malaysian Highway Authority director-general Datuk Mohd Shuhaimi Hassan at the newly-constructed WCE management office in Bandar Bukit Raja, here.

Also present were WCE Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Hamzah Hassan and managing director Datuk Neoh Soon Hiong.

Hamzah said the 233km WCE spanning across Selangor and Perak would play an important role in boosting the economy once it is fully completed.

“It makes WCE a significant factor in assisting with the development of the west coast corridors of Selangor and Perak.

“The WCE project is already 71 per cent completed, where it has been opened in stages in Perak. In May, the Hutan Melintang to Teluk Intan stretch was opened followed by the Kampung Lekir to Beruas stretch in September.

He expressed hope for continuous cooperation and support from all relevant parties so that other WCE stretches in Selangor can be completed on schedule.

“This is not just to provide the convenience to motorists but also for local economic development along the WCE stretch,” said Hamzah in his speech.

There are 12 sections of the WCE, with seven in Selangor and five in Perak. Ten of the expressway’s 21 interchanges are in Selangor and 11 in Perak.
