Floods: Number of evacuees slightly decreases in Johor, rises in Pahang

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Johor has slightly decreased to 9,151 from 9,403 as of 9am today, but the number of temporary relief centres now stands at 93 from 83 last night.

Johor Disaster Management Committee Secretariat in a statement said Segamat recorded additional 23 centres, Kluang maintains with highest number of centres with 28, Kota Tinggi (18), Johor Baru (5), Batu Pahat (3), Kulai (2) and Muar (1).

Flood victims in Segamat stood at 1,350 (from 358 families) with the water in Bandar Segamat river reached a warning level.

Meanwhile, flood victims in Kluang continued to rise to 2,666 from 747 families compared to 2,611 from 733 families last night.

A total of 19 centres were opened in Kota Tinggi with evacuees rose to 2,659 from 695 families compared to 2,611 from 733 families last night.

Meanwhile in Mersing, number of evacuees rose to 1,303, Johor Baru (766), Pontian (184), Batu Pahat (74), Kulai (124) and Muar (25).

Three main roads in Kota Tinggi area are still closed for all vehicles – Jalan Ladang Pasir Logok-Ladang Bukit Kelompok, Jalan lading Bukit Payung, and Jalan Kampung Mawai Lama – while four roads only open for heavy vehicles, namely Jalan Mawai-Bukit Samsu, Jalan Mawai-Sedili, Selekoh Batu 19 Jalan Utama, and Batu 17/ Batu 18.

In PAHANG, number of evacuees in Rompin continued to rise as 1,003 from 256 families were forced to leave their homes as of 8 this morning compared to only 790 victims from 204 families yesterday afternoon, who had been evacuated to 10 temporary relief centres opened in this district.

All flood victims were evacuated with the help of members of the Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force using trucks and rescue boats.
