Air Selangor pulling out all stops to provide water during plant shutdown

KUALA LUMPUR: Air Selangor Sdn Bhd is providing emergency water aid at its 11 Local Service Centres (Pusat Khidmat Setempat – PKS) and has deployed more than 70 water tankers to areas affected by the Saturday shutdown of the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant.

Its corporate communications head Abdul Halem Mat Som said that as of 3pm today, Air Selangor mobilised 70 water tankers, 14 jumbo tank trucks and activated 11 PKS – which will operate 24 hours a day – to ensure that affected residents have adequate water supply during the disruption.

In a statement this evening, Abdul Halem said that they have also opened public taps at eight locations to provide emergency water relief to customers.

"Six more locations will be (operational) tonight, and before morning, we should have public taps at 14 locations to provide water supply to those affected by the disruption.

"In addition, 2,268 5-litre water bottles were distributed to (people in) residential areas," he added.

Abdul Halem said that the water provision operation is massive, as it covers a wide area, and as such, Air Selangor may not be able to immediately meet consumers’ needs – but it is doing its best to supply water.

"Priority is given to those living in highrise buildings and (those needing water for) emergency purposes," he said.

However, he advised consumers in immediate need of water to visit their nearest PKS or ‘public taps’ (pili2 awam).

Abdul Halem said that clean-up works at the water treatment plant are ongoing.

"At present, Air Selangor cannot anticipate when the plant will be ready to operate again, as this would depend on the level of pollution (still present),” he added.

Affected residents are advised to get the latest information on the water disruption via Air Selangor’s mobile phone application, website (www.airselangor.com.my), Facebook page (Air Selangor), or Twitter account (@airselangor).

"Users facing an emergency can send a text message to 15300 (
