Wear songkok every Thursday, Kelantan male civil servants told

KOTA BARU: In the latest directive from the Kelantan government, all 5,000 male civil servants in the state are required to wear songkok every Thursday.

The directive which was issued by the state secretary office and dated Dec 19, is set to be effective tomorrow.

Deputy state secretary Datuk Tengku Azmi Tengku Jaafar said the new order was approved by the state government during its executive councillors meeting on Nov 6.

"The directive affects male civil servants in Kelantan including those working at the administration office Darulnaim Complex, the state government and local government offices.

"They must wear a black songkok every Thursday during office hours," he said.

Tengku Azmi said the directive was in line with efforts to promote the state's Islamic image.

In April, the Kelantan state secretary issued a directive for all state and federal offices to only display official portraits of four dignitaries in all state and federal government offices.

An administrative order signed by the deputy state secretary (administration) Datuk Adnan Hussin stated that all government offices in Kelantan must display the portraits of Ruler Sultan Muhammad V, the Tengku Mahkota, Sultan Ismail Petra Ibni Al Marhum Sultan Yahya Petra and the Menteri Besar.
