Directive to wear songkok also applies to 7 joint departments in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: The directive to wear songkok every Thursday doesn’t just apply to male civil servants at state government departments and agencies, but also to seven joint departments.

Kelantan deputy state secretary Datuk Tengku Azmi Tengku Jaafar said the joint departments included the Works and Forestry Departments, as well as the Drainage and Irrigation Department.

“Male civil servants of the seven departments along with other departments and agencies under the state government must wear songkok every Thursday while on duty.

“They will face disciplinary action if they fail to do so,” he said, adding that the directive that made it compulsory beginning in December, was part of the state’s dress code for civil servants.

“It is also in the line with the Kelantan government’s slogan of Developing with Islam (Membangun Bersama Islam),” he said.

However, Tengku Azmi said the directive did not apply to Federal Government civil servants though they were encouraged to do so.

The directive was issued by the State Secretary on Dec 19 and approved by the state government in its executive councillors meeting.
